How many prophecies existed in the Buffyverse? I think it would be interesting to make a list and analyze them: how they were found and by whom, what was the outcome and so on. Any help is appreciated because my memory is quite lacking in this kind of details I'm starting with the very first: 1. Buffy is killed by the Master. - who discovers it? Angel founds somewhere the Pergamun Codex, an ancient book that was believed had long been lost, and gave it to Giles - what does it say? that the Slayer would die at the hands of the Master - is it fulfilled? yes, albeit only temporarily - how? Buffy goes willingly to face the Master and he kills her

Yeah, and Spike had read about the anointed one...in the Aurelius newsletter I guess. That's what he said when he met the annoying one.
Prophecies were mutable - Buffy didn't stay dead after she killed the Master but she did die.
As for the freakin Shanshu - yes, let's give Angel a selfish reason to help people. I hate that prophecy. Not only is it kind of insulting - it's also impossible to wipe a slate clean. I mean, Dru is still insane, and his victims are still dead. Forgiveness - maybe - but wiping the slate clean - nope.

I think prophecies are stupid :-P they are just trown out there but dont really make sense. take this 4 ex, why it's Angel the one that find it? where? and why Buffy gos to the Master? thats stupid imo weirdly is exactly the fact that Buffy knows of the prophecy to cause her death. So basically it was Angel's fault and this also makes me think that prophecies aren't really 'meant' to happen, they can be avoided. Doesn't the one about the anointed come before? and that really has no sense please don't get me started on the anointed one! stupidest and biggest stupid plot stupid hole of the whole show! As for the freakin Shanshu - yes, let's give Angel a selfish reason to help people. I hate that prophecy. Not only is it kind of insulting - it's also impossible to wipe a slate clean. I mean, Dru is still insane, and his victims are still dead. Forgiveness - maybe - but wiping the slate clean - nope. agreed, no way becoming human can wipe out all the evil one has done. If Angel, Spike or another souled vampire feels the guilt for what they have done when unsouled surely their becoming human won't stop that. Unless that wiping the slate clean means that they lose their memory of their vampire past imo But what do we really know about that prophecy? I don't remember ats very well... was Doyle the one to tell Angel about it? I do remember though that it was very ambiguous, saying something about a vampire having an important role in the apocalypse but without stating if he was on the good or the evil side. So, not exactly a prize for a champion

Wesley got it from the scroll Angel stole when he invaded W&H just after Darla was brought back - it says that the vampire with a soul - after the big apocalyptic battle where he will do either good or evil - will have his past washed clean and live again in human form. It was first talked of in season one, and it was a theme all the way through the seasons.

Really, when thinking about it, were there that many prophecies? We had the anointed one and the Master, but really that was it. The others were just bits for the viewer more than Buffy herself. And most were hints to the arrival of Dawn in season 5. "Little Miss Muffet counting back from 730" said by Faith in a dream sequence (also noted again as the time on the clock in Buffy' dream in the episode "Restless") and referenced back in the first episode was of season 5 by the crazy man calling Dawn "Curds and whey" "Be back before dawn" Said by Tara also in Buffy's dream in "Restless" "Always darkest before..." (Dawn not actually said but it's enough to give the hint) said by Warren's robot girlfriend Amber. There was no pre-reference or prophecy for Adam, 314, the Mayor, Glory, The First (unless you vaguely count "Amends") or the Trio of Warren, Andrew and Jonathan. What do you count as a prophecy?

What do you count as a prophecy? I think strictly those that are named as such in the shows... so the Master killing Buffy and rising, the much loved Anointed One, the Shanshu. Then on ATS there is the one about Sahjhan being killed by Connor, the fake one about Angel killing Connor (which actually happened). Not many really but I have the feeling I'm missing something

well actually the Shanshu is from Ats and now I'm noticing that all the ones I mentioned from Buffy are in s1, seems weird that the writers didn't use any prophecy later! you are right mcwoo81 there is nothing for Adam and the others . Oh wait! wasn't there a prophecy about the Major's ascension? btw what's 314?

314 was the room they kept Adam in and the name of the project to create him.
From memory, the mayor's ascension only has it noted that it can be done, the demon he could turn into and that it has been done by another before but not specifically about him. They give details about what the ritual will entail so they can form a plan around again nothing specific about Mayor Wilkins.

Could we count Buffy's slayer dreams as being prophetic?

I would have liked a prophecy about the first, in s7, I think they missed an opportunity there. there was that girl's prediction tough. The one that died, what was her name? she saw what happened at the end and Buffy telling Spike that she loves him. it's a vision, more like a dream than a prophecy really

there was that girl's prediction tough. The one that died, what was her name? that's Cassie. Great character, it's a pity she got to die so soon. I agree about the First, a prophecy about it would have been interesting and yes I think visions are more like dreams, just like those the Slayers have. well, at least Buffy! There was no mention of Faith having slayer dreams! And I just realized that I first dismissed mcwoo81 suggestion about the slayer dreams being a sort of prophecy and then I mentioned them. Sorry
