Angel. I think that this rewatch will make me dislike his character even more! I'll never understand how some people can believe that he honestly wanted to help, even less that he fell in love with her at firs sight. That's so unbelievable! It's so obvious that he doesn't care about Buffy or helping anybody. He is there lurking in the dark, hiding like a rat, waiting for her like a stalker (how long? was he there all night? did he see Darla and Luke bring Jesse in?). He clearly knows a lot more than he says and still does *nothing* or says *nothing* to really help Buffy. He knows about the Harvest and he must know about the vessel, he's been in the tunnel... why doesn't he tell her what she needs to do to stop all that happening? But no, he says nothing and lets her go alone to face the Master. Because 'they really don't like him' and because 'he is afraid' *snorts*. And all the while he clearly holds no faith that she will succeed. Not only he doesn't care that if she dies no one will stop the Harvest and the Masters, but he doesn't care tha she dies either! How can he later tell Buffy that he already loved her? And how can she be so dumb to believe him? Un-Be-Lie-Va-Ble! I think at this stage of the game he seems more like he wants to see if he survives before he commits. There's a real Angelus vibe going on - he's practically giddy when he meets her, very snarky. My view is that Bangel actually created Angel and at this stage he didn't have much of any emotional investment. I don't ship them, but I don't minimize the difference between who he was when he showed up, and who he was when he started his own series. On a side note weirdly SMG's acting here comes out as being the weakest among the main characters (except for Boreanaz who keeps... sucking ). Alyson is truly the best and Nicholas is surprisingly good, even if he is at his first acting experience - or that's what I know. Anthony is pitch perfect and Charisma is great when she does comedy, but er... not so much with the drama. Yeah - I've been rewatching too. Just finished season one, and I have to say that SMG just seemed actressy at first. AH was amazing - and ASH. NB hit his stride after an episode or two. But Buffy just seemed kinda flat. It surprised me. I mean, I really love Buffy herself, but it took a lot longer than I remembered for Sarah to hit her groove.
